Designer Kavita Bhartia has recently launched her Autumn Winter 2016 collection, which she says, "invokes the spirit of architectural heritage from the lands of Rajasthan". Inspired by the popular jharokhas in the state, the collection comprises comfortable and flowy "wedding wear" in a very subtle colour palette.

In a candid conversation with Garima Arora, Bhartia further elaborates on the collection, its inspiration and the trends of the season.

What was the idea behind the collection?

The idea behind the collection was to reflect the beauty which we experience when we visit Jodhpur, the royalty, the colours, details and the richness.

Why jharokhas?

Jharokhas constitute architectural beauty and royalty, and they deeply inspire me. The point was to reflect that through clothes.

Elaborate about the silhouettes, colour scheme and embellishments in this collection.

Silhouettes in this collection are very royal and filled with intricate details. Keep in that in mind, this just cant be called as a collection for wedding season, its very versatile.

How have you tried to experiment?

With the designs and cuts, we tried doing it in a different way to cut monotony.

Since when have you been working on the collection?

Well you never really do realise the time when you start working on something. I don't even remember the time when this idea struck me but I always knew wanted to do something like this.

How is this collection different from your previous collections?

I think our designs have come a long way, in terms of style and in terms of approaching a particular set of customers. We have come from boho and chic to a very modern, contemporary way to present our clothes.
Elaborate on the trends for the season.

This wedding season its all about crimson red, indigo, whites and the pastel shades. Fashion world is constantly growing and evolving and so are the trends.

The recent changes in fashion that you have seen...

Experimentation is something that I have seen happening currently in our industry. I am proud of being here and experiencing the change.

How have you incorporated those changes in this collection?

Dynamism being the major factor happening in our industry. Our collection has also seen a gradual approach to adapt to the same.

As a designer, what inspires you?
Travelling inspires me the most. I feel you get to learn so much from different cultures and get to know new people. Moreover, your horizon just widens.

What is the philosophy that you follow?
To eat healthy, and live healthy.

What is the kind of competition that you face?

I have been in the industry for a very long period of time now, and competition is
everywhere but it depends how much you let it get it to you, and to me it doesnt. I am just doing my own thing and I am very grateful for that.

What are you working on next?

Right now, I am still in the process of figuring out my next collection or to say, getting inspired.
