Popular Kannada actor Mitra will essay an important role in P C Shekar's upcoming film, 'Raga'. This movie will see Mitra, who has worked in more than 105 films, play the lead for the first time in his career.
"He has worked with me in three movies as comedian and everybody knows his strength as a comedian. But this movie will feature another side of him. When I explained his character in 'Raga', he didn't think twice before agreeing to the role. He said it was an opportunity of a lifetime," explains Shekar.
Mitra, informs Shekar, essays the role of a visually-impaired man and is paired opposite actor Bhamaa. "He had to shed about seven to eight kilos for his role which he promptly worked on, without me having to tell him again. I didn't want someone who looks like a hero because the character requires someone who looks simple and whose body language is not complicated. Mitra fits the bill perfectly," explains Shekar.
The characters have been created to sensitise people about the life of those who are visually-impaired.
"He has understood the character so well that, sometimes, it doesn't feel like Mitra is acting. He has brought out the emotions required for the character very well.
"He has not only physically managed to slip into the character but has also undergone a makeover of sorts. He has grown a moustache and the makeup is in keeping with the role. He has also been given a coat and cap, which have now become his identity," says Shekar. These, he adds, will also help the audience connect with his character.
Shekar also points out that 'Raga' is not a regular commercial film. "All my previous projects have had commercial elements but this one is different. People will be drawn to the real elements in several places. People will surely connect with the characters. The movie talks about how love goes beyond monetary and other gains," says Shekar.
"There are a lot of things about love and life that we have tried to convey through this film." The director explains that the concept of love has been looked at from a different angle. "When two people connect with each other with true love, then nothing can tarnish their beautiful relationship. It's a take on how emotions play an important role in determining one's future," he says.
The film also has an excellent technical team that has worked on presenting the visuals in a powerful manner.
