'Onam' or 'Thiruonam' originated as a joyous annual reminiscence of the golden rule of King Mahabali, a mythical king, who ruled Kerala a very long time ago.
Onam welcomes the spirit of this great king and is a veritable spread of many appetising delicacies.
The expert chefs have put together a special celebratory 'Sadya Brunch' on September 3 and a traditional 'thali' for lunch on September 4 that is fit for kings. 'Sadya', the typical Kerala feast, is a sumptuous spread of rice with a number of side dishes such as 'Erissery', 'Avial', 'Chena varuthath' and 'Moru curry'.
