Director P C Shekar is in the process of completing his latest project, 'Raaga', which has actor Bhamaa playing the lead. She essays the character of a visually-impaired girl and is paired opposite another actor who the director is yet to reveal.

Shekar says that he has always enjoyed working with Bhamaa because she understands the character well and emotes her part to perfection. The director says he wanted an actor who could not only understand the essence of the character but also someone who is also dedicated to the craft. He has found that in Bhamaa. In an interview with Nina C George, Shekar shares his experience of working on the project.

What is 'Raaga' about?
'Raaga' traces the lives of two visually-impaired youngsters who fall in love. They say love is blind and this film does well to elaborate on that statement. Here, the two characters in question can't see but can only feel emotions. 'Raaga' is also about the inner voice that these two people experience within themselves.

On the choice of Bhamaa...
This is a performance-oriented film rather than a heroine-centric one. And I am confident about Bhamaa's abilities about doing complete justice to the character because I've worked with her in 'Arjuna' and seen her discipline and dedication.

What background work has Bhamaa undergone for her character?
Bhamaa portrays the life of a girl who is affected with a developmental cataract disease. She is required to wear a white lens in her eye and has to squint throughout the movie.

She has spent time in a school for the visually impaired to understand their body language and how they live with the problem. The experience has helped her understand the character better.

How has Bhamaa changed her appearance for the role?
Bhamaa was required to put on some weight and she has been given a retro look from the 1970s. Her costumes and hair style too have been given a makeover.

Who is Bhamaa acting with?
I am yet to reveal the details of that. I want it to remain a suspense for now.
